Surgery of the spine

The spinal column is a unique and critical anatomical structure in the human body. It is made up of twenty-five mobile parts and protects the spinal cord. It also acts as a morphological frame for the thorax and abdomen.

The Clinique des Grangettes' orthopaedic centre handles problems associated with the spine. The most common conditions treated at the Clinique des Grangettes are malformations and problems occurring during growth (for example, scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis), the aftermath of traumas, degenerative conditions and osteoporosis. Some rarer conditions are also addressed, like infections.

Among the more conservative treatments are functional therapies (physiotherapy and re-education), medication, and infiltrations, or the use of corsets.

The surgical procedures currently available use many different techniques. They range from decompression by resection of herniated discs, to unblocking the spinal duct and stabilising the spine using rigid or flexible instruments. Generally, there is a tendency to select less invasive techniques.
