Proctological surgery

Proctology, together with urology, is the medical speciality covering pathologies of the pelvic floor. These can be debilitating in the daily life of the patient. They are treated very efficiently at the Clinique des Grangettes.

Modern care adapted to the patients

There are many different causes of proctological pathologies, which can be treated either conservatively or by surgical methods. The conditions affect women primarily, because of their particular pelvic anatomy.

Constipation is one of the most frequent pathologies. An unbalanced diet can be at the root of the problem, but so can afflictions to intestinal motility (irritable bowel syndrome, rectocele). Some cases require surgical or curative interventions, while others need re-education by way of physiotherapy combined with dietary corrections and possibly the use of laxatives.

Faecal incontinence is often caused by a traumatism to the anal sphincter or a local illness. There are a number of possible surgical corrections available: suturing, muscular plasty, implantation of an artificial sphincter or neuro-stimulation. In the absence of a lesion to the sphincter, physiotherapy is recommended.

Surgical interventions to treat prolapsed organs are also performed at the clinic.  The perineal pathology can be taken care of globally by surgery and then rounded off by a course in physiotherapy.
