Today, except in emergencies or complications, cancer and other organ diseases can be treated through small incisions made on the abdominal wall.

Laparoscopy, which is to operate through small holes through long instruments and a camera, has been practiced since

the mid-1980s and remains the preferred method for many operations.

This surgical technique has still limitations particularly should there be complications, yet even here the Da Vinci robot can be used by virtue of its three-dimensional vision that the doctor can use.
